Shippen is the twelfth studio album. The songs were recorded, and most of it was released, at the Archive throughout the latter half of 2022, after they were released on compilations. The complete album is added in January of 2023. The free music web site clongclongmoo.org classifies the songs as acoustic and alternative rock. The music review site Ziklibrenbib registers the album as folk rock, and they compare it to the singer and songwriter Elliott Smith, the alternative rock band Red House Painters, and the alternative country band Magnolia Electric Co. Recent Music Heroes categorizes the album as americana, and dream folk rock. There are four cover versions of songs, by Sean Faust, Underlined Passages, Relays, and Sonofdov, as well as one instrumental song. Bill Lee plays violin, and Adam Salsano plays the bass guitar, each on one song.
The acoustic guitar is a Yamaha F-310. The snare drum is a Pearl M-80, with ProTone head. The tom is C. H. Gara. The brushes are Vator Wire Tap Brushes. The violin is a Stradivarius, circa 1930. The microphone is a built in Synaptic SmartAudio, on an L. G. Gram computer. Chris Lee makes the recording, and mixes with Acoustica Mixcraft Version 8, made at 100 Shippen Street, in Weehawkan, New Jersey, 07086. There is additional recording, in Neptune, New Jersey. The front cover painting is by Irene Rzeszotarski. The photography is by Chris Lee. The compilation covers are by Dw. Dunphy, BlowUpRadio. and Paisley Avocado.
Shippen is the ninety first release. The previous is Banding Together Webathon 2022, and following is 2nd Annual Giving a Second Chance.
The first released song, "S. Feclofus" appears on the charity compilation The Light Between – Songs of Hope and Mercy, as the ninth track. It is released in August, with all of the proceeds for Saint Jude Children's Hospital. The song "Sentinel" is on the fourth volume of Rock against Hate, for Planned Parenthood. For The Jersey Journal's review of the album, the Maravines write that "a woman has the right to choose when she wants to have children, like a man has the right to be free, like all life has the right to live."
During an April 10th interview with the musician Sean Faust on the on line station BlowUpRadio, the host suggested making a compilation of his songs. "As it Grows (Part 2: Without a Name)" is on the three song compilation Don't Get Up, Relax, which features songs that are written by Sean Faust. In a follow up interview with BlowUpRadio, on August 12th, Sean Faust remarks that the Maravines "did the second part, Without a Name, and talk about making a tune your own. Their cover of "As it Grows" was really something unlike my version, and they kind of went for that more ethereal air about it, but is not as obvious if you listen to my version. What they did is just georgeous, and I can not speak highly enough about them." In a review of theSeptember is called "outstanding" in the on line music magazine New Jersey Stage, on September 5th, and it premiered on BlowUpRadio's New N. J. Music Playlist that day, at 7 P. m. It was in rotation on BlowUpRadio, also in October. Sean Faust later notes that the Maravines "definitely catch the darker side of the lyrics." The alternative rock artist the Fisherman and the Sea, that he "loves that Maravine's cover, such a great mood," and the bassist Steampunk Munky from the metal band Bovine Nightmares writes that he "is a long-time fan of the Maravines."
"Recall, and Return" is on the October Banding Together compilation, in conjunction with the Spondylitis Webathon. Chris Lee performs an acoustic set of eight songs, for the webathon. JPeck of Margate, New Jersey's alternative rock band Bosco and Peck writes that the he "really likes the track," and it puts him "in a trance." BlowUpRadio adds that the song's vibe is "mellow, but compelling, with strong lyrics," and Sean Faust writes that the music on the album is "seriously incredible." The album is recommended by clongclongmoo curator FC Stoffel.
"Heat of the Sun" is Ziklibrenbib's featured Sound of the Day, on March 22nd, 2023, and write that it is an "impressive album.. ..that shines with spontaneity." "Everyone was There" premiered on Cologne, Germany's F. M. 674 program Read the Funky License's ninth episode, on March 23rd. On March the 31st, the independent news magazine Micros-Rebelles featured "Heat of the Sun" in the weekly news hour. The show was also broadcasted on Arras, France's radio station F. M. 99.9, and on Dunkerque, France's Meet F. M. 93.3. On June 12th, Shippen is the Album of the Week, at the Haut Jura Saint Claude library, in France. The song is also the Teaser of the Day on Recent Music Heroes, on June 20th.
